She Lost Both Legs in War… Now She’s a U.S. Senator
Tammy Duckworth is a U.S. Army veteran whose life changed forever during the Iraq War in 2004.
While serving as a helicopter pilot, her aircraft was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. The attack caused catastrophic injuries, resulting in the loss of both of her legs and severe damage to her right arm.
Despite the life-threatening injuries, Duckworth survived.
Her recovery was long and difficult, involving multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation. However, instead of giving up, she chose to rebuild her life with determination and resilience.
After her military service, Duckworth continued to serve her country in a different way. She became an advocate for veterans and worked to improve care and support for wounded service members.
In 2012, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Later, in 2016, she made history by becoming a United States Senator from Illinois.
Duckworth’s story is widely recognized as a powerful example of strength, perseverance, and dedication to public service.
Today, she continues to inspire millions with her journey from the battlefield to one of the highest offices in the country.
